As well as the supersized burgers and fries America is famous for, Florida food and drink boasts influences from South America, the Caribbean and the rest of the world (all thanks to the people that live here). Therefore, the rich and varied cuisine is a mixture of traditional dishes with flavours added for extra spice.
Locally caught seafood and homegrown citrus are plentiful here so you’ll find many establishments serving them up, but be sure to try favourites such as:
Food
Key Lime Pie
This dessert is made by mixing America’s favourite citrus fruit with egg yolks and condensed milk. Its creamy filling is then poured into a pastry crust and topped with a whipped meringue made from sugar and the leftover egg whites.
Conch Fritters
A Caribbean speciality, this tasty dish is essentially spiced batter stuffed with fresh conch meat that’s deep-fried until golden.
The Cuban Sandwich
A twist on the traditional ham and cheese sarnie, the Cuban variation has roast pork, glazed ham, Swiss cheese, and thinly sliced dill pickles sandwiched between two slices of Cuban bread.
Drinks
Craft Beer
There are over 200 craft breweries across the state (and counting), all of which offer delicious homemade hops and ale craft beers.
Orange Juice
Synonymous with Florida, oranges are grown locally and made into canned, chilled or frozen concentrated juices. Smoothie places and juice bars are very popular so you will never have to look far for your daily servings of fruity goodness.
